We have been told and by now, most of us know that Yoga is a deep process of transformation. It boosts our health. Yes. It empowers us. Yes. It enlightens us. Well, so they say, that is yet to be tested. We understand at least intellectually what Yoga is about and at times, get a glimpse beyond the physical benefits of our practice. We may even look forward to the changes that we believe will improve an area of our life, or make us into a Better Well-Rounded Individual. Often however, when we come off that mat, and head back into our daily lives, we miss the point. We do not fully realise that we have just spent the last hour and a half digging up our inner child and his/her hurts, or rekindling that old love affair, or revisiting that less-than-realised soul we called mum or dad. And all of the sudden, we fall apart over the dishes in the kitchen sink, yell at our loved ones or break down at the sight of the electricity bill. We stop seeing our beloved for exactly that: our beloved. Instead, we find ourselves A Mess. Yoga was originally designed by great sages as a monastic practice. Yoga was meant to be taught from guru to disciple. Yoga was only taught as a way of life which included strict guidelines as to how to live your whole life. There was great wisdom in those teachings designed to support us, which today are not fully communicated nor adopted.
This workshop aims to demystify the depth at which your practice affects you and will cover practical ways to help you remain centred off the mat and be that Saintly Yogi/Yogini not of the world, but in the world. It is all about the evolution of consciousness – the whole point and path of Yoga. These teachings are essential for any Yogi to understand the crucial changes that take place both internally in the psyche, that affect the personality self and consequently, influence one's life as one continues to practice Yoga both ‘on the mat’ and ‘off the mat’. We will trace the step by step journey of Kundalini through the Chakras, and address their respective imbalances as well as their restorative ways. We will discuss and practice together simple psychological principles to heal our relationships, spiritual Yogic/meditative exercises and apply it all to our Asana practice.
